  • Hayashi Jōji (Illustrator, essayist; Member of the Street Observation Society)

    Born in Tōkyō in 1947. Graduated from the Industrial Design Department at Musashino Art University. After working at Sanrio, where he was involved in character design, he left to pursue a freelance career as an illustrator, essayist, and researcher of Meiji-era culture. He directs his inquisitive gaze toward various subjects, including manhole covers and patterned concrete blocks. Author of manhoru no futa, nihon-hen (Manhole Covers: Japan Edition, Scientist Publishing) and other works.

  • Kazuo Maeda (Japanese translator, critic, and writer; Deputy Secretary General of the Street Observation Society)

    Born in Tōkyō in 1947. Graduated from the Industrial Design Department at Musashino Art University.   • Jin Inoue (Priest of Tokusho-ji Temple, writer)

    Born in Kyoto City in 1971, Jin Inoue is a priest of Tokusho-ji Temple, which belongs to the Shinshū Ōtani-ha branch of Jōdo Shinshū Buddhism. He is also a writer. While serving as the resident priest at his family temple, he writes and edits under the pen name Tobira no Rabbit. At the age of 15, he was recognized by the Street Observation Society for his discovery of street astronomy in Nagasaki Prefecture.
