John Einarsen (Founder/Publisher) and creators from Kyoto Journal
John Einarsen is the founder and editor of Kyoto Journal, which he began with other poets and writers in 1986. He received the Commissioner’s Award of the Japanese Cultural Affairs Agency in 2013. His books of photography include Kyoto: The Forest Within the Gate,Small Buildings of Kyoto, Vol. I and II, and Curtain Motif. He has studied Miksang contemplative photography for the past 15 years, becoming a teacher in 2018. His books of Miksang photography include This Very Moment (2022), The Book of Leaves (2025), and The Universe at My Feet (2025).

Lane Diko (Associate Editor of Kyoto Journal, writer, photographer, editor)
Lane Diko has been a regular contributor to KJ as a writer, photographer, and editor. He has exhibited his photography and installations at The Terminal KYOTO, EV Gallery in New York City, and most recently in a solo exhibition at Ace Hotel Kyoto.

Ed Heckerman (Emeritus Professor of Photography at Cerritos College)
Ed Heckerman has been involved with photography for over fifty years. He is emeritus professor of photography at Cerritos College where he taught from 2004 to 2024. Heckerman was invested as a lopon (teacher and ritual master) in the Dudjom Tersar school of Tibetan Buddhism. He teaches meditation as well as workshops in Deep Seeing: a meditative approach to photography.

Tomas Svab (Artist, Curator)
Tomas Svab uses photographic process in remarkable new ways. His works have been exhibited in the Americas, Europe and Asia and collected by museums and corporations. He curates the annual Shitsuraiten exhibition at the Terminal Kyoto along with woodcraft artisan Nakagawa Shuji. He works on art projects with galleries, corporation and paper making factory in Japan. He was awarded the Kyoto International Community Association Award for a panoramic photograph from the Secluded Spaces series. His photo works were used on the covers for KJ 70 and KJ 94.
