This talk event will be a subject related to James Mollison's exhibition "Where Children Sleep," inviting experts to discuss child poverty and its current situation in Japan. Sayaka Uno and Takuya Murai, who have been involved in the creation of children's cafeterias and other places for children in Kyoto City for many years, will talk about their past activities, what they have noticed from their practice, and what they would like to share with the adults around them, to discuss the true meaning of "child poverty in Japan" and what actions are needed to solve it.

  • Sayaka Uno (Director of NPO happiness)

    From 2016, Happiness Cafe was launched in the Southern Ward of Kyoto City.
    In the time since, the number of customers has climbed to 5,500 people. From 2019, a community cafe was also opened. From 2022, a shelter aimed at young women was also started, via private funding.
    The same year, as a part of activities focusing on the prevention of child poverty and child abuse, with the hope to increase public knowledge of the community kitchen for children, they hosted the "Saiji Park Autumn Festival".
    Starting from childrearing families, but extending to the locality, businesses, and local government, over 3,000 people attended. Director of the Kyoto City Foster Parents Association.

  • Murai Takuya (Advisor of NPO Yamashita Daigo Kodomo no Hiroba/ Social Worker)

    Takuya Murai has been involved in activities related to children for many years, mainly in the Yamashina and Daigo areas of Kyoto. Yamashina Daigo Kodomo no Hiroba has been working on creating a cultural and social environment where local children can grow up in a better and richer environments. For the past 15 years in particular, the organization has been addressing social issues such as child poverty and child abuse.
